ECSTASY WARNING SIGNS


If someone is using Ecstasy or is high on Ecstasy, you may notice changes in his or her behavior. Be on the lookout for general drug use symptoms as well as the specific physiological and behavioral effects of Ecstasy. Another clue? Possessing the childlike paraphernalia common in rave/club circles where drugs are present. Here is a list of signs to watch out for:

General warning signs that a child could be using drugs, including Ecstasy:

  • Change in peer group; new friends
  • Change in sleeping pattern; awake for extended periods of time
  • Drop in grades, irregular school attendance; lost interest in hobbies, sports and other favorite activities
  • Hostile and uncooperative
  • Household money has been disappearing
  • Loss of goals and motivation

Signs that a child may be using Ecstasy specifically:

  • Confusion
  • Depression
  • Headaches, dizziness (from hangover/after effects)
  • Muscle tension
  • Panic attacks
  • Paranoia
  • Possession of pacifiers (used to stop jaw clenching), lollipops, candy necklaces, mentholated vapor rub
  • Severe anxiety
  • Sore jaw (from clenching teeth after effects)
  • Vomiting or nausea (from hangover/after effects)

Signs that a child could be high on Ecstasy:

  • Blurred vision, rapid eye movement
  • Chills or sweating, high body temperature, sweating profusely, dehydrated
  • Confusion
  • Faintness
  • Paranoia or Severe anxiety
  • Trance-like state
  • Transfixed on sites and sounds
  • Unconscious clenching of the jaw, grinding teeth
  • Very affectionate

Paraphernalia associated with rave/club culture, in which drugs like Ecstasy are highly prevalent:

  • Child-like costumes such as angel wings, glow sticks, glowing jewelry, children's backpack, teddy bears/children's toys, pacifiers
  • Signs of excessive water consumption at unusual times, such as bringing multiple water bottles to parties/raves or having an unusually large amount of empty water bottles in his or her bedroom or car
